Last Friday totally unplanned and only by my desire to snack something we dropped by in the store Hema Kheya Neye after a long time. This is the place where I feel like a kid in a candy store. Not knowing where I’d rather look at and what would I buy fist. This time we bought two wonderful macrobiotic cakes, one chocolate and one with cherries and pumpkin. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to provide photos of them, because we gulped them as soon as we left the store.
We were particularly pleased with finding raw tempeh. For some time we couldn’t find it in other healthy food stores and now it was finally ours. Of course, we could not resist but to use it right the next evening.
Tempeh was chopped and diced and then sautéed with onions, sesame seeds and spices. We fried Chinese frozen mixture (red peppers and leek, bamboo, black mushrooms, carrots, onion and pea pods) on a little oil, and then added the mashed bananas, salt, garlic, curry).
We served it with millet sprinkled with gomashio and diced tempeh, drizzled with soy yogurt, mostly for decoration. The combination of flavors: sweet bananas, salty tempeh and vegetables would be particularly complemented if we had soy sauce at that moment, but even without it, food was great.

Prošlog petka smo, potpuno neplanirano i samo zahvaljujući mojoj želji da nešto pregrizem svratili posle dužeg vremena u prodavnicu Hema Kheya Neye. Tu se osećam kao dete u prodavnici slatkiša. Ne znam gde bih pre pogledala i šta bih pre kupila. Tom prilikom smo uzeli dva divna makrobiotička kolača, jedan čokoladni i jedan sa višnjama i bundevom. Sliku nažalost nismo u mogućnosti da priložimo, jer smo ih smazali čim smo izašli iz radnje.
Ono što nas je posebno obradovalo jeste pronalazak sirovog tempeha. Već neko vreme ne možemo da ga „ulovimo“ u drugim prodavnicama zdrave hrane i sada je napokon naš. Naravno, nismo mogli da odolimo da ga ne upotrebimo odmah naredno veče.
Tempeh smo iseckali na kockice i propržili sa crnim lukom, susamom i začinima. Smrznutu kinesku mešavinu (crvena paprika i praziluk, bambus, crna gljiva, šargarepa, crni luka i mahune mladog graška) smo propržili na malo ulja, a potom dodali viljuškom izgnječene banana, so, beli luka, kari).
Oh that looks delicious! I was really happy when I finally found tempeh in my neighborhood too 🙂

Thank you, it was quite tasty, indeed. As I mentioned in the post, it would be ever more yummy with soy sauce, but oh well… I don’t know why, but raw tempeh is really hard to come by here, and we avoid buying already fried one, since there is no information on which oil it was prepared

I love tempeh with soy sauce too – especially when it’s marinated! Tempeh in general is really hard to come by where I live as well. I wish it was more widely available.

That’s why we are going toward making our own. It could be quite an adventure to try that… And fun of the same amount…
